There was a famine during David’s reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the LORD about it. And the LORD said, “The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.”

| It took David three years to ask God if there was a particular reason for the famine. When we face a difficult circumstance, should we ask God why it’s happening? The tendency is to assume, “It’s a fallen world; bad things just happen.” Perhaps we should ask God to reveal if there’s anything we did to bring about the difficulty, anything we need to repent of or make amends for. In this case, Saul had done something bad, and the famine was the result. When David made things right, the famine ceased. What areas of your life could use some examination? |
