The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. So God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies—I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life!”
Encouragement for Today
In a dream, God invited Solomon to ask for anything he wanted. Solomon asked for wisdom to carry out the huge task God had given him, a task that felt overwhelming. God was so pleased with his answer that he promised to make Solomon not only wise, but also the wisest man who ever lived! Besides that, God promised him what he did not ask for—riches, fame, and a long life. Do you ask for the things God wants to give, such as wisdom, love, and strength to carry out his will? See what happens when you do.

A loud and cheerful greeting early in the morning
will be taken as a curse!
Encouragement for Today
There’s a communication principle here: regardless of intent, your timing and delivery should always take into account the recipient’s state and needs. A neighbor doesn’t want to hear your loud greeting in the morning; to him or her, it’s as obnoxious as a curse. Focus your attention on the other person when you attempt to communicate.

Father’s Day is coming soon. It’s time to think of ideas on what to do on Father’s day for my dear husband. I usually make a video presentation for him and I show it to him the first thing in the morning. So he would actually start off his day feeling on top of the world with all the mushy mushy words I have written for him, in behalf of my kids. This year, I wonder what to do. Doing video presentation every year could be a bit boring too.
Probably, we just go and shop for casual shirts for him. He has run out of casual shirts already… too old to be used. But the only thing is, when it’s nearing holiday time, all the malls will be full of people. I hate shopping through a crowded place. It irritates me. Sometimes, we have to stand in the
long queue just to pay for the things we have shopped. But we have to do it because there’s a lot of offers especially when it’s holiday time.
I was actually browsing thru the net if I can do shopping online. It’s easy, convenient and fast, I guess. Here’s what I found: there’s this black friday sale that is available online. I have read about good reports from buying through this and the best part is, not only it’s cheap but you don’t need to stand in queue just to pay for your shopped goods. And another good part is, there’s a lot of branded goods that are available. Amazing.

“The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”
Encouragement for Today
Ananias and Sapphira didn’t have to sell their property. They wanted to look good to others by seeming so generous. Their deception and greed were their undoing. Peter’s words here remind us that all we do is for God’s glory. If we can’t do something generous out of our own free will, we probably shouldn’t do it at all.

Last, a friend of ours asked us whether we wanted to go to China with him. He was going to do a backpacking trip there, visiting some friends. He stayed there for 6 years and he made a lot of friends there during that period. Now that he’s in Malaysia, he wanted to visit them again. I straight away considered going there. I looked into the internet for some cheap China hotels. It gave me a long list of hotels to stay. And since my friend was going to Beijing as well, I looked into some cheap Beijing hotels as well. It actually lead me into peeking at the
cheap Shanghai hotels too.
This website offers a last minute bookings if you decide on a last minute decision. It is available 24/7 so you can do your bookings anywhere you are, at your own convenience. Isn’t advanced technology amazing? You don’t have to go out and drive to buy your airline tickets. You can do so wherever you are. Oh wait, might as well check out some cheap Hongkong hotels.

When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying,
‘Why were the nations so angry?
Why did they waste their time with futile plans?
The kings of the earth prepared for battle;
the rulers gathered together
against the LORD
and against his Messiah.’
“In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed. But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will. And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
Encouragement for Today
This prayer models a way to pray. First, the believers remind themselves of who God is and what he’s done. They bring Scripture into it. This helps them see what’s happening from God’s perspective. They accurately assess the problem; they put it into the context of God’s big plan; they don’t ask that their enemies cease and desist or quit bothering them. No, they pray instead for boldness and for God to show his power so that more people will come into the kingdom. This is prayer with power!
