desire to please God

“May he give us the desire to do his will in everything and to obey all the commands, decrees, and regulations that he gave our ancestors.”

1 Kings 8:58

Encouragement for Today
Life with God is about having a heartfelt desire to please him. If you don’t have this desire at the moment—or at any moment—you can pray for it. This might also apply to particular areas we struggle with, such as forgiving someone. We know we should, yet we don’t really want to. Pray is first for the desire to obey, to forgive, or to serve. Whatever it is the Holy Spirit brings to mind, if we can’t immediately obey, we can ask God to change our hearts first.

foreigners will hear you

“In the future, foreigners who do not belong to your people Israel will hear of you. They will come from distant lands because of your name, for they will hear of your great name and your strong hand and your powerful arm. … Then people all over the earth will know that the LORD alone is God and there is no other.”

1 Kings 8:41–43, 60

Encouragement for Today
Even at this point in Israel’s history, Solomon foresees that God has a big plan, not just for Israel, but also for the whole world. All the nations are to fear and know God as he truly is. This has been God’s heart and plan from the beginning, throughout Israel’s history, and even now through what he’s doing in the Church. The culmination will be all tribes and peoples worshiping the Lamb of God around the throne of heaven. This is God’s passion. Is it yours?

Halloween Costume

In the place where I was born and grew up, there’s no Halloween celebration whatsoever. We do celebrate all soul’s day and all saints day, but not Halloween. However, in certain places and tradition, there is this kind of celebration also. The first and last of which I had attended (Halloween party) was a long time ago, when I was still very young. It was a fun experience. Scary but fun. We had it in our service building and there was supposed to be a treasure box to find. It was funny coz I got scared and so I stopped joining in looking for the treasure and volunteered instead to be one of the witches. So our leader had to put a witch costume for me. I loved that outfit. I just didn’t have time to take photo of the costume then because I was too excited to scare people.

Now that I am a mother, I can’t wait for my kids to do tricks or treat. I have found some nice kids Halloween costumes though. And you should check it out too, if you’re planning for a costume party for your kids. Their Halloween costumes can be shipped worldwide and you get 0% sales tax! There’s a wide range of costumes to choose from, including Barbies and Ken.

I saw Lindsay Lohan wearing a Halloween costume. What do you think? I think it’s rather cute and sexy at the same time.

You can find a lot of costumes like this in www.costumecauldron.com. They ship it to anywhere in the world. Now you don’t have to go and walk around, hurting your feet, looking for costumes. You can do so at the comfort of your home. Just click the image below and it will take you to a whole wide range of costumes for your halloween party.

naturally beautiful

post: backdated: may 28, 2007

When we were in MPH bookshop last month, I saw a book called Naturally Beautiful by Dawn Gallagher. I got quite curious what the book was all about. I made a mistake in picking it up and reading the contents. But it’s not a sorrowful mistake i should say…Hehehe. Coz it’s all about taking care of your body in a natural way. I showed Peter the book and (I’m so thankful I have a very supportive husband when it comes to beauty stuff and all that…) and he straight away bought the book for me. Great! I started reading the book… actually started studying it. Hehhehe. Since I have oily skin, I focused more on the oily skin care. Hmmm… I thought of doing it… and yes, true enough… i felt the difference. it’s really really effective. I had one of my friends try it and she loved it. If you feel you wanna try it… please let me know. I’d be glad to give you some recipes. Just let me know what type of skin you have! You don’t need to worry where to get the ingredients because they’re all found in your kitchen! If you cook, that is. The only thing is… if you want a spa… that means you have to have some essential oils. I got mine from Body Shop…

I’ve been doing to Peter as well. Right now, as I’m typing this.. he’s sitting in front of me, enjoying his foot spa. Hehehe. I’m gonna have one later too, I hope. Nowadays it’s hard to predict what I can do later coz of the kids. Samantha might wake up by the time I put my feet in the tub. Hahaha! That’s why I just hope I could do things nowadays. Okay lah… I have this spa thingy nowadays. It’s always nice to do it yourself… considering how expensive it would be to do it outside.Feeling great smelling the aromatherapy scent here in the house…. Hehhehe.

it does pay off

This post was written on April 2007, when my boy was 2.5 years old.

I started reading to my son when he was 3 months old. I noticed he had one particular story he liked… and that was Peter Pan. Everytime I read to him, he would laugh like crazy! Of course, I would read other books as well, including the Book of Psalm from the Bible… that, too he would laugh everytime I read it. I read to him, but it wasn’t regular, until he reached the stage when he didn’t wanna go to sleep until you read a story book to him. The ever present Peter Pan story has been always included during reading time.

Tonight, my husband Peter and I tried… just to see whether our son knew the flow of the story already or not coz he has heard it almost every night. We tested… Peter started reading and paused… and to our amazement, he filled out every word Peter has left out! We were so surprised! I didn’t expect it… we just wanted to see whether he knew the story line or not.

It really does pay off… to read to kids every time. Now I have to start with Samantha. I have read to her already but not on regular basis. It is really encouraging to know this new discovery. I am so proud of him (or maybe us?.. for reading to him). Hehehe.

Also, I mentioned in my previous blog that while Peter (my husband, not Pan), was in Phuket, Schenker boy and I watched the same Barney program over and over again. I almost went nuts just thinking of Barney… until one time, I led him to sing the alphabet song. I haven’t taught him this yet but it’s included in the Barney program. Again, to my surprise, he could sing the alphabet song already! Repitition does help… or watching educational programs does… whatever. These days I get too lazy to sit down and teach our boy. So i leave it all to Barney. Hehehe.

Anyways, we’re planning (again) to send him to school in July. Actually we wanted to send him to school in January already but we postponed coz we thought he was too young to be sent there. He’s not even potty trained! (But the school said it’s ok… they could train him – that would be a big relief for me then – hehehe). We’ll see.

My point here is: repetition does really help.

food-hygiene tips

Although we often worry about food poisoning when we eat in restaurants or order food from take-away outlets, we are more likely to become sick as a result as a result of our own lapses in hygiene. It’s vital to observe the following basic food-hygiene measures:

  • wash your hands before and after preparing raw meat, poultry and fish
  • don’t use the same chopping board when cutting up raw and cooked meat.
  • bring food to the boil quickly and cook it thoroughly.
  • don’t keep food warm for long periods, but instead, eat it as soon as possible after it’s been cooked.
