Although we often worry about food poisoning when we eat in restaurants or order food from take-away outlets, we are more likely to become sick as a result as a result of our own lapses in hygiene. It’s vital to observe the following basic food-hygiene measures:

  • wash your hands before and after preparing raw meat, poultry and fish
  • don’t use the same chopping board when cutting up raw and cooked meat.
  • bring food to the boil quickly and cook it thoroughly.
  • don’t keep food warm for long periods, but instead, eat it as soon as possible after it’s been cooked.
