car seats

good quality car seats are important for traveling with kids. when my first child was born, we bought a brand new carseat for him, sponsored by a friend from the US. i was told to never buy a second hand car seats as we don’t know how the first owner handled it or whether it had been in a car accident already. but of course, when baby girl, my second child, came out and we desperately need to have a car seat for her, i looked up from e-bay for some secondhand ones. i found one which was fairly new, the baby barely used the car seat. and it was for a good price. i forgot the brand but i think it’s mothercare. you know if it’s mothercare, you would know it’s of good quality. in UK, you are not allowed to travel with kids without car seats. here in Malaysia, they haven’t imposed it yet. but when my family and i have a long-distance travel, we make sure to use car seats for both my kids. better be safe than be sorry.

being impressive

“I didn’t believe what was said until I arrived here and saw it with my own eyes. In fact, I had not heard the half of it! Your wisdom and prosperity are far beyond what I was told. … Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.” … So King Solomon became richer and wiser than any other king on earth.

1 Kings 10:7, 9, 23

Encouragement for Today
What impressed the Queen of Sheba about Solomon? His wisdom and prosperity. These went hand in hand, and together, they were a witness of God’s glory. Being a wise, prosperous, and generous Christian can be a great witness. What is there about your life that would impress an unbeliever? Do people look at your life and want to be like you? Do they want what you have, not only in terms of material things, but because they see a quality of life that they lack? How can you let the goodness in your own life point people to God?

what to do with milk?

milk that’s just about to “turn” can be restored to freshness by adding a pinch of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) to it. if it’s too fa gone, however, remember that sour milk can be wonderful when used for baking light scones and cakes. if, on the other hand, a recipe calls for sour milk and you don’t have any, simply add a little lemon juice, or even vinegar, to milk to sour it.

don’t let the bed bugs bite yah!

that’s what grown up people say to kids when kids are about to sleep. but can we actually do that? i mean don’t let the bed bugs bite us? i remember when my sister and i were in singapore, we stayed in a very cheap hotel and i woke up having bed bug bed bug bites all over my hand. it was horrible.

how can we prevent bed bugs from appearing in our beds? can we actually get rid of them? it seems impossible coz they’re very tiny and sometimes, can’t be seen by our eyes. but i have found from the bed bug guide on how to kill them. yes, you can actually find where they are nesting and kill them. we don’t have to get rid of our beds, instead, we can get rid of them! try looking up at bedbugsguide.com and they will tell you how.

turn to God

May all who hate Jerusalem
be turned back in shameful defeat.
May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop,
turning yellow when only half grown,
ignored by the harvester,
despised by the binder.
And may those who pass by
refuse to give them this blessing:
“The Lord bless you;
we bless you in the Lord’s name.”

Psalm 129:5–8

Encouragement for Today
The psalmist fully expresses his strong feelings of revenge to God, but he leaves it up to God to deal with his enemies. As children of God, we can feel our emotions completely. We don’t have to stuff them and pretend they do not exist. God knows our frame. We can express every emotion to God, no matter how strong. The key is to let God handle the situation. Too often we try the reverse: We ignore our emotions and try to handle the situation! Let God know what you’re feeling and then leave the matter in his hands.

build away!

(So Solomon rebuilt the city of Gezer.) He also built up the towns of Lower Beth-horon, Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness within his land. He built towns as supply centers and constructed towns where his chariots and horses could be stationed. He built everything he desired in Jerusalem and Lebanon and throughout his entire realm.

1 Kings 9:17-19

Encouragement for Today
If there’s one verb to describe what Solomon did most, it’s “build.” Solomon seemed to love to build. He built the Temple, his palace, cities. God chose someone with a natural bent toward building, so he could build up his land and people through Solomon. Note, too, that there was peace during Solomon’s reign. Before you seek to build, make sure there’s a foundation of peace. Settle any unresolved issues first, then build away!
