A Gift from God

October 28, 2009

“Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! . . . Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.”

Ecclesiastes 5:10, 18–20

encouragement for today

Loving money—pursuing wealth for its own sake—does not bring satisfaction. However, receiving wealth from God as a result of doing work we enjoy and are good at does bring joy and peace. Wealth from God is a by-product of right living. The key difference: what is your motivation? If it’s to become wealthy, you’ll never have enough. If it’s to use your God-given gifts, you’ll feel contentment and enjoyment. As always, it comes down to a heart issue—in this case, whether you love God or money.
