Boys and Gadgets

Monday, February 20th, 2012

I really think that boys and gadgets do have special relationship. My son doesn’t have a lot of gadgets. I let him use my computer for school work and my Sony DSLR for him to practice and that’s all. But with almost every kids now owning one or two gadgets, my son couldn’t help but wishing he has any of those, too. But being a concerned parent, I don’t want him to have any of those at this early stage.

So what does he do? He would draw things and pretend it’s his gadget. He would even do draw model cars and model planes! He is creative that way.

I am so proud of him.

First Day High

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

It has been a long time since I was in high school, in fact it was in another lifetime(LOL). But now that I’m teaching high schoolers, some of the memories are flooding back. I remembered the times when I was cramming for final exams, going to my junior prom, going up the stage to receive my award, passing through the halls with lockers and having fun. I may have a different experience than my students now but in a way we are all passing the same stage. The stage between childhood and adulthood, the time where we shape our lives, and the time where we experience a lot of firsts.

Most of the time, it was very hard and discouraging but with the help of our peers, we are able to survive. Graduating from high school was a very emotional event for me. I met my friends there, friends who until now I am still close with, and I was sad because we are parting ways and changing paths, I was sad to leave my mentors who taught me more than the academics. It was the best part of my life, better than college. Now that I’m writing about it and remembering the good times, it makes me tear up. Not of sadness but because of happy memories.
